10000 Santa Monica Boulevard

Facts & Figures

Described as a “The Green Blade” by Jean Nouvel, the visionary architect explains his concept for 10000 Santa Monica Boulevard:

“It is a groundswell. Twenty-first century contemporary architecture must express the art of living in a particular place at a particular time. The climate of Los Angeles is a privilege. SunCal’s 10000 Santa Monica Boulevard will be across from the green borders of the Los Angeles Country Club. Every residence in the building will have a view onto the adjacent landscape. Each residence spans the full width of the building. From the ground to the fifteenth floor the homes give onto verdant wooded landscapes. Above, it is all sky. From up there one sees parks, but also the horizon of light downtown and the Santa Monica Mountains.

In the perspective of Santa Monica Boulevard the building is a blade. A green blade. The residents will experience the city from behind the plants that surround their homes. Long views are had through a foreground of plants. Foreground, background. That is the secret of the atmosphere specific to each residence. The interior space of each unit extends out beyond the glass line onto a planted balcony landscape. The plants grow hydroponically, without soil. Vegetation enters the home transversally in the form of interior gardens planted by the residents.

Outside the lobby is a large garden, an inside-outside space with terraces, patios, teak decks, sliding facades, fabric shelters. The entrance hall stretches the length of a luxurious forest panorama.

The green blade is thin, eleven times higher than it is wide. It tries to prove that it is possible to tame height by simple pleasures like reflections, shadows, and vegetation vibrating against the depth of faraway horizons.”
